Bloody Sunday trial will test limits of justice in Northern Ireland

Case against Soldier F is subject to legal arrangements set up under Good Friday deal The trial of Soldier F for murder and attempted murder on Bloody Sunday in 1972 will test the limits of Northern Ireland’s criminal justice system and legal arrangements made in accordance with the Good Friday agreement. The Northern Ireland (Sentences) Act 1998 said anyone subsequently convicted of a scheduled – normally a terrorist – offence committed before April that year would only serve a maximum of two years in prison.
